An Anxious Moment

An Anxious Moment: Scientists tell us this work of art is what your mind looks like when it’s experiencing anxiety. Well, actually I am fibbing. In fact, as far as I know, there’s never been a scientist that has viewed this work of art. If they did, they more than likely would’ve questioned its creator.

.

Being the creator, I know for a fact that I wasn’t experiencing anxiety or stress when I painted this. I had discovered a tube of copper paint. Copper paint is lustrous. When applied to a canvas, and when lit properly, it can be blazing. The gleaming, flaring, and almost gemmy characteristics of that ardent copper slosh, takes over the entire work of art. Look away, and then look back, you will be mesmerizingly drawn into the domineering spatial form.

.

I stored this painting for nearly a year. I discovered it discreetly tucked way behind a whole bunch of other paintings. Once I managed to retrieve it, I hung it on the wall to give it a good look. Filtered sun coming through a window set the painting aglow. Thanks to the domineering copper innovation, I rediscovered something interesting about the process of creating art. When you are in the process of using your mind in a tactile creative way, it’s often impossible to become anxious. I personally know this is also true when you’re writing, but not always. You can become downright panicky. In the creative process, there seems to be this thing called insecurity, and when enough of that takes hold, you can become very anxious.

.

If you do become anxious when you’re in the process of creating, it’s a good idea to learn how to manage it. Here I’m going to shamelessly recommend that you read Calming Your Inner Tornado – Managing And Overcome Anxiety.
